Month Four: 8 Pounds
Well...I’d say this month was definitely the best so far. *happy dance* I lost a total of 8 pounds and 3 1/2 inches over all. So my total so far is 15 pounds and 8 inches. FINALLY PROGRESS.
I think what clicked this month was the fact that I had some health scares earlier in the month that made me really take this seriously.
So after we went to the pumpkin patch, when we got home I told Chris I wasn’t feeling well. I laid on the couch and felt so strange. By the end of the night my hands and feet had swollen to almost twice their size. I thought that maybe I was just retaining fluid or something.
But the next morning I couldn’t even hold my toothbrush or brush my hair because my hands were so swollen and painful.
I laid in bed for the next few days (my mom was sweet enough to keep the kids while Chris went to work) and my sweet husband finally convinced me to go to the doctor (I’M STUBBORN OKAY) and she was worried I might have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.
She ran a bazillion labs on me, but they all came back negative. So I was relieved, but also super frustrated because even if it was bad news, I just wanted answers. I felt like we were back a square one.
That’s when my sweet friend, Jessica, stepped in and saved the day. (Ha) She told me I should read the book No Grain, No Pain by Dr. Peter Osborne. Ya’ll this book has been blowing my mind.
He described so many of my symptoms and explained how all grains can affect our bodies in a negative way, leading in the long run to diseases and pain. I have been gluten free for about 7 years, but didn’t realize that all grains, including corn and rice, could affect my body the same way wheat and such does.
So while I was reading this book to try and figure out what was going on with me, I did a week long juice cleanse with one meal of chicken and veggies for dinner. I instantly saw a change in the inflammation in my hands and feet.
And since then I’ve been juicing in the mornings for breakfast and eating meat, vegetables and fruit the rest of the day. (Ha) It hasn’t been too hard for me surprisingly, but I do have moments (and sometimes entire days) where all I can think about it Mexican food or chocolate.
But I am feeling SO much better. I don’t ache near as much, I sleep better, and my hands and feet are a normal size. (Loooooool)
My clothes are starting to feel a tad bit loose so that makes me soooo happy. I’m sharing a few “before and after” pictures...even though there’s not a huge difference between them. I can still see some progress!
My face in the right picture cracks me up! Who knew trying to figure out how to take a full body selfie would make someone so angry?!
The picture on the right makes me look a little thinner than I actually am (since I’m hiding most of my body behind Chris haha) but you can still tell that the jacket fits a looooot better. *YAAAAS*
